Weather and Hats

Traveling this time of year in northern Europe, well, you take your chances. We've been lucky with the rain, there hasn't been much after those first days in Brugge. But it has been chilly, with temps hovering around freezing and snow falling while we've been in Basel. However, the snow hasn't really inconvenienced us, and it has given a festive Christmas look to the city. It is a lot warmer than Montana.

The Basel folks are all bundled up walking in the cold weather. The array of hats is particularly interesting...

We have felt hats with a flower on the side...

Lots of knit hats, looking hand knit. There are a good number of yarn shops in the city with lucious wool and interesting patterns...

Hats for sale in the Christmas markets...

These were lined with fleece and had those rather funny braids hanging down from the ear flaps...

Here's a nice red knit one with a matching scarf...

A complete outfit with ethnic roots...

And a stylish fur turban...

Whoa... we have a happy jester...

And the old haus frau checking out the sweets at the confiserie in her red hat...

And the elderly pensioner bundled up in his hood and scarf.
